It is hard to believe that I have been working on my first book since 2017. Learning how to be happy while being patient with your dream is important. Recently, I came across old notes and an outline for my book. Now I understand what other writers were talking about when they said it took them years to finish their manuscript.
Honestly, it does not even seem like it has been that long. You see when you begin the idea of a book it is like gathering all the special ingredients for a savory dish. You have an idea of what it might taste like, but you do not truly know until it is done. I am starting to see that my book has been exactly like that process.
Being a writer has been a part of my creative spirit for as long as I can remember. My pen has been my faithful companion, and the minute I grip it is when our partnership blossoms that much more. The ink flows freely as my thoughts become words. Have you ever felt that kind of connection with your passion?
It Takes Time
Reflect on a time when you were impatient with your dream. What did that look like for you? Dreams tend to get us up and off the ground towards action. One thing that writing this book has taught me is patience. So often we want immediate satisfaction in reaching our goal that we forget that it takes time. It is easy to forget that the journey is part of the process.
Learning how to be patient has taught me that my book is worth waiting for and with time it will happen. As much as I wish that it had been completed sooner, I will wait for its debut. The exciting part is that I get the opportunity to finish it and then share it with the world.
Have you experienced something similar with a goal? There are times that you will have setbacks but guess what? Those setbacks serve to further you on the journey ahead. Everything that you do is part of the course. It is an eye-opening experience when you view it in a way that teaches you something.
Ways to find happiness
Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed with finishing my book, I rely on self-care. Ways that I find happiness are taking a walk, expressing gratitude in a journal, calling a friend, working out, or taking a drive. Once I practice self-care, it puts me in a better state emotionally. Be happy with your dream and understand that taking time for yourself is when happiness shows up. Even though I have to be patient, it does not keep me from experiencing joy.
It reminds me that in order to be happy it is up to me to get there. Dreams have a way of getting the best of us. Remember it doesn’t have to feel like it is always a struggle. If this happens to you, ask yourself: why am I feeling this way?
By being aware of your emotions will allow you to let go of negative thoughts. Releasing them frees up space in your head for more positive thinking. There will be plenty of highlights along the way to help you embrace being patient and still be content with your journey. Now that is worth doing.
What practices will you implement so that you can be happy too?
