November is a reminder of the upcoming end of the year and how far you have come with your dream. It is also a great time to be yourself by pursuing your goals. Looking at how you can do that doesn’t have to be complicated either.
It is so easy to get caught up on what the rest of the world is doing. At the same time, you stand a chance of losing who you are as a person. Life can feel like a never-ending race.
If you feel like you are in a race, ask yourself why. Are you looking at providing value or creating status?
I like to reflect on it because sliding towards who I am not is important to me. Instead, I choose to embrace being myself. I don’t ever want to be that person that achieves success in a non-genuine way. The person that you see is who you get.
Often, we see other people’s highlight reels and think we are lacking. The good news is that we are not. We are blessed more than we know.
Learn from the hard things
Everyone that achieves their goals probably endured some hard things. It happens to everyone. They serve as lessons learned. It is like looking for the sunshine on an overcast day.
What I have learned is that pursuing your dreams and goals requires you to be uniquely you. You don’t have to be a different version of yourself. You can enhance your skills and talents, but being true to yourself is priceless.
Being fake and being confident are two different things. What if you embraced confidence the same way that you carry your values? Confidence can be like that mentor that nudges you along when needed.
Chasing your goals is hard. Losing who you are in the process is a difficult thing to go through. So, what can you do?
A notebook serves to further
Start by getting out a notebook and writing down who you know you are. If there are some qualities that you would like to add, write them down too. Look at your notes.
What is the common denominator? Identify it and then come up with a way to make it work in your favor. You are not becoming a fake version of you, but a more equipped version of your best self.
How can you use these qualities and talents in the future? Think of the ways these things will shape you. Move forward with it one day at a time.
If you see yourself as timid, what is one thing that can make you braver? Pursuing your dreams and goals are a lot more enjoyable when you are yourself. You might still have deadlines and pressure, but you will be accomplishing them by being you first.
Embrace the imperfections
I would embrace my imperfections in the process and learn from them. It is better than changing to accommodate who society says I should be. It is possible to achieve your dreams by doing so.
You end up showing up as an authentic version of yourself. That is where being genuine counts. You are happier when you can be yourself by pursuing your goals. As you move toward the qualities that you wish to learn, start by being you. You bring more to the table than you think.
How will you embrace who you are today?
