One of the things that I had missed during the stay at home order was getting my hair done. Joemary Rodriguez is the phenomenal Artistic Director and owner of Salon Eden, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. This pandemic has been difficult for small businesses, and when Phase 2 arrived, I was happy that she would be open again, and I could go back to the salon.
I was more thrilled for her than I was for myself. Joemary had been waiting for this day to arrive. I commend her for hanging in there and opening back up when she did. I am a firm believer in supporting a local business.
Joemary is a business owner that takes pride in the work that she does and has ensured that her team is safe too. I decided to embrace this new normal by making an appointment with her. During this season, I have taken precautions by doing curbside takeout and shopping. Most recently, I started venturing out with my mask and sanitizing as much as possible.
New Rules Implemented
When I arrived at Salon Eden, I called to let them know I was there. I waited patiently in my car and then waited for the okay to go inside. Her staff wore a mask, and I noticed they had a sign about COVID-19 questions along with social distancing signs on their floor. They took my temperature with a forehead thermometer and had me sanitize my hands at their station.
Joemary came to greet me, and all we could do was give each other an air hug. It was tough not to be able to hug each other, but understandable. I wore my mask, as well. She sanitized her hands once again. Then she consulted with me on what I wanted with my hair.
I had wondered how I would feel going back to the salon, but I can say I was at ease. By continuing to follow safe practices, it was easier to get used to it. The staff was cleaning throughout my visit. I appreciated that so much, and it made my appointment relaxing.
The Transition Was Relaxing
She also passed no judgment on my hair since I had given in to color it myself. I had not done that in years, but she completely understood. It was great to get a balayage, root color, and glaze. The best part was the shampoo when I got an incredible scalp massage.
Reading a magazine was not permitted yet, but it was fine with me. You have the option of being on your phone or simply relaxing in the experience. There was laughter again and plenty of catching up to do. That is what it feels like when you go to someone that you trust.
An Amazing Business Owner
Instead of sharing my photos when I was there, I wanted to share Joemary in action. There is something about a woman in motion that is empowering. I am sure her client was happy after her appointment.
Deciding to go back to the things you once did does not have to be scary. All that it takes is being mindful, safe, and considerate of the people around you. If you are not quite ready to venture out yet, that is respected.
However, if you are, you will appreciate supporting a local business too.
Remember that the places that you like to go to will answer any concerns that you might have. They will be more than happy to answer your questions. I am so glad that I went back to the salon. Even though we could not see each other smile, the twinkle in our eyes said it all.
