The end of the year usually means gearing up for New Year’s resolutions. This might include a career change, a new diet, or attempting to ditch old habits. Although they are useful to make, I count on following my purpose by choosing a word of the year.
Picking out a word of the year might seem hard, yet you may want to put some thought into it. However, you may choose to allow it to flow to you and then it won’t seem as hard as you think.
anchor in
How may choosing a word of the year work for you? It can serve as an anchor for the kind of year you hope to live. Think about your life experiences for the past year. What did you love and not love?
First, remembering what didn’t go right prepares you for what you do want in the new year. Next, you decide what you are willing to change to get the kind of life you desire.
Change is a process that you get to go through so you can get to the better things. Without change, you remain the same. This may show up as settling for less than you deserve or sticking to what feels comfortable.
I like to reflect on what didn’t work for me. In this way, I get to figure out how I could improve with current things and those things in the future.
At this point, you might be wondering what my word of the year is, right? I’ll let you know in a few more paragraphs. In the meantime, think of a variety of words that might work for you.
Write them in a notebook or your journal. You might even want to choose more than one word. That might be useful too. Embrace the words that you come up with because they influence the direction that you will go. The main thing is choosing what resonates with your soul at this moment.
I believe that we are designed to evolve on the path that gets us to joy, happiness, and self-discovery. This helps us understand the kind of life we wish to live.
New Year Means Changes
How many people do the same thing day after day? Some people do it and are so unhappy. They settle for a less-than-ideal life. Maybe it is because that is all they know to do or because change would require them to do the work to get there. That is when it is time to make a change for the better.
If you don’t jump in to discover what that is for you then you might be doing yourself a disservice. Time will continue to move on whether you decide to make a shift or not. Your word of the year is meant as a useful tool to help get you going.
This year has taught me many things. I think of my time as sand in an hourglass and because of it, I am choosing to make a shift toward new things and opportunities. The word that resonates with me this year is Revive.
According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of revive (verb) is the following: (intransitive verb)-to return to consciousness or life: become active or flourishing again.
As a transitive verb, it is:
1. To restore to consciousness or life
2. To restore from a depressed, inactive, or unused state: bring back
3. To renew in the mind or memory
To restore and renew means I will undergo changes that will serve me instead of depleting me. It will mean doing the work to get to this new way of living life. The same can be true for you.
Here is to you fully appreciating the year you were blessed with and to a new year full of abundance and life-changing opportunities.
So, I ask you, isn’t it worth your valuable existence to do that too?
