Doing your best to be in flow with your amazing life is great for your well-being. What does it mean to be in flow? To understand this, I think about what I value. For me, it is my time.
Every single grain of sand in an hourglass represents time in my day. Some days I go through do not represent my values with time. Although this happens, I remember to give myself grace. After all, I am an imperfect human and that is okay.
Have you ever felt like you weren’t acknowledging your values? It happens to the best of us.
Be purposeful
Being in flow means that I am being purposeful with my time. This means taking inventory of what I am spending my time on. Even though Netflix is my go-to for downtime it can also consume precious minutes. The way I comprise is to do what is important first and then enjoy watching a fun series or movie of my choice.
When you are in flow with your values you are in alignment with what is important to you. It is about committing to what you are willing to do. It isn’t about only saying something, but more about doing the action piece with that declaration. This helps to be consistent.
Ask yourself if you are in flow in the present moment. Is there anything blocking you from being in flow?
Sometimes these blocks come in the form of excuses and procrastination. These two things have a way of weaving into your existence. Then once they do you might tend to stay there and start to feel stuck.
Finding solutions
Whenever I get tangled in procrastination and excuses, I have a heart-to-heart talk with myself. Other times it is with a great friend who keeps it real and makes me aware of a hard truth. Do whatever works for you to become unstuck.
You end up confronting the things that hold you back. Grow through the experiences that appear as setbacks. These things help you learn from something that no longer serves you. Once you start eliminating the excuses then procrastination does not have room in your life.
Make a list of the things that you feel are keeping you stuck. Writing might help you become more aware. Once you identify where you stand you get the opportunity to figure out your flow.
Being in flow with the things that are important to you is possible. When I am in flow I am writing, I am engaging in self-care, spending time with my family, and taking time for fitness and my faith. It isn’t dabbling in them occasionally but more about making them part of my daily routine.
Now would be a great time to take some steps to get in flow. What small step will you take today? It all starts with a decision that you get to make.
