Lessons from My Mom beneficial to my growth

One of the things I admire most about my mom is her ability to press on despite any circumstances. She has been through divorce as I have and has always been my rock. Lessons from my mom have been beneficial to my growth. I look at her as my Wonder Woman. Her faith in God was poured into me and still holds strong to this day. If she can be an overcomer, then I can too.

She has taught me many lessons throughout my life. I often think of the things she missed out on because she was raising a family. Despite not following other goals in her life, she was a mom first. I can relate to that, too.

The commitment to raising a family and being a wife was not always easy, but she did it. I learned how to have a love for making crafts because she was great at it. Her cooking was exceptional growing up, and her infamous chicken molé.

When I was a kid, she made sure that we had what we needed. Taking a day off from school to have mom-and-daughter time was the best! It was so good for our well-being to do that for ourselves.

Childhood memories

Going to the Spanish bakery and picking out sweet bread and tamales was a favorite of ours. To this day, my family and I love to stop at one to be reminded of home. Going to Spanish mass on Sundays was our routine. The foundation of knowing God was built from the beginning.

I remember the time she went on an out-of-state trip when she and my dad went into sales. That was such a boss move! They have my admiration for making the effort to explore other opportunities. I suppose this explains why I was led to freelance writing and selling different products over the years. Everyone needs a role model.

Although we don’t get to spend most holidays together due to distance, we are closer than ever. We text daily or make video calls. The times we do see each other in person feels like we always have been together.

Lessons From My Mom Provide Encouragement

She has encouraged me to pursue my dreams and goals, too. When I write, it isn’t just for me, but for her and my kids too. I have been taught to set an example and be the role model with flaws and all, because, at the end of the day, it is all that matters. Resilience can show up and show out.

Along with resilience, my mother has a softness to her that she expresses with her love for us. There is never a day that she doesn’t believe in me or my family. She is a super-talented lady! Little does she know she has amazed me all my life. Her being a self-taught mama gave me the courage to try things too.

When she has fallen with life’s trials and tribulations, she has gotten back up to keep going. She has conquered the art of letting go. There is a lot I have learned from my mom. I have the best advice in my head to access at any time because of her.

Holidays were made special and traditional; therefore, I created my traditions with my family. Not everyone has the honor of being blessed with this kind of relationship. I don’t take that for granted. I look forward to when I can spend time with her again. We will enjoy lattes or tea along with some Spanish bread.

So, this Mother’s Day, I will be reflecting on lessons from my mom, knowing that she did her very best.
