This month marks my third year of blogging. Happy Blog Anniversary to me, yay! Becoming a Latina blogger in my forties is not as hard as it sounds. Was it scary? Yes, at times it was, in the beginning, it was exactly like that.
I have been a writer since 2003, and I wrote for free with a community of writers in my hometown. A few years later it became a paid freelance position as a columnist. Fast forward to 2016, and that is when I launched my blog.
A good friend advised me to get online. I took her advice and hired her to set up my website and teach me all the things about blogging. She was also my business coach. Linda Mendible thank you for believing in me and giving me that much-needed push.
Keep on learning
At first, I struggled with being a newbie. To this day, I am still learning. I love that, though. Whether it is reading something or attending a workshop in real life, it teaches you a lot.
I want to add that I have always held a full-time job during my path. That is until most recently. I have found that there is a time when you know in your heart to go entirely in. Immersing myself in my career as a writer and inspirational coach is what I am meant to do.
When I first started my blog, it was a creative and therapeutic outlet for me. I had been going through some hard times in my personal life. It gave me the courage to do something for myself while helping others.
I felt that if my words could inspire someone else, it would help me too. I started connecting with others online. Some of those connections ended up becoming friendships.
I had to get vulnerable, too, when I shared my story about Bell’s Palsy. Stepping outside of your comfort level is part of the growing pains. It teaches you how to be resilient. Having the experience with getting rejections as a writer is what has helped me stick with it.
You are never too old to start
You can become a blogger or writer at any age. For me, it came naturally more so than I thought it would. I felt I had to find a different writing voice, unlike what I had always known as a columnist. That was until I asked Molly Stillman how to do that.
She reassured me. There was no magic formula. I ended up keeping the voice that I have always known. Sometimes it is best not to overthink it. Becoming a Latina blogger in my forties is the best thing I have done.
It has offered me the opportunity to continue to grow as a writer. I am also becoming an inspirational coach in the process. That is the beauty of being open to learning and evolving with your craft.
I am grateful for the opportunities and all that becoming a Latina blogger in my forties has opened up for me. I say go ahead and do it scared. The only thing that you have to lose is not ever doing it.
Regret is not something that I want. That is why I do the work and let the rest fall into place. Being in my forties has helped move me forward. My word of the year for 2019 is Time and I honor it by how I apply it to writing.
To all of you that have been following me with my blog, podcast, and social media, thank you. Your support is appreciated, and I hope that you too, get inspired. Do what you love, you definitely won’t regret it.
