Visiting the Outer Banks to Create Memories
When you are the mother of young men, you cherish making memories. It is one thing when they are little, but as you get older, they do too. That is motherhood for you.
You are forever trying to make moments last a little bit longer. I wouldn’t change any of it either. We had an opportunity to revisit the Outer Banks and stayed at Shutters on the Banks in Kill Devil Hills.
It was the perfect location because we had our private access to the beach. Our room had a king-size bed and a pullout sofa bed. Right next door was a souvenir shop that had boogie boards and summer gear.
Although they served a continental breakfast, we ventured out and found the best restaurant ever Argyles in Kitty Hawk. This place is the epitome of food that you feel honored to eat.

Look for Unique Local Restaurants
PJ and his wife Debra, who is also the chef, have brought to life experience for their customers. She is the brain behind the recipes, and anything on the menu is sure to please. We had breakfast there both days.
The first day we had Crepes Suzette, Fresh Fruit Crepes and the Grand Mariner French Toast. Our server suggested trying our dishes without syrup to get the full flavor. That was a great suggestion.

The second day we had the Breakfast Burrito, Blueberry Pancakes, Cinnamon Roll, and the Belgian Waffle with scrambled eggs.
Everything was so delicious! We were so impressed that we vowed to return to our top 3 restaurants on our next visit.

The The Black Pelican had the best fried Mahi that I’ve ever eaten. The service there was beautiful, and if you get a chance, please try their desserts. We ate there for lunch and dinner. Kudos to the best server, Brittany, for taking good care of us. She was awesome!
I regret that I didn’t take any photos of their food because were were starving both times. I can tell you that it was completely worth being a tad bit selfish by digging in though.
The last restaurant was Sugar Creek Seafood and was recommended by my son’s friend Joe also one of their summer employees. It is on the sound side of Nags Head and has the best sunset view. We had the pleasure of getting their dinner special with their fried shrimp.

One of the things that I noticed with the seafood at The Black Pelican and Sugar Creek was the breading. It was so light and not greasy at all. I usually do not order fried food, so it was a pleasant surprise.
Venture out to explore new places
We took a break by getting in a game of miniature golf. That brought back memories of when our boys were little. It was a great way to unwind with a fun activity, no matter how old you are.
One of our favorite things was visiting Jockey’s Ridge State Park. The dunes are fun to climb, and if you want adventure, they offer paragliding lessons. Once you get there you feel like you are somewhere else.

Be sure to take some water with you to stay hydrated. We wore flip flops, but you can wear tennis shoes too. If you look closely enough, you will see plenty of spots where a photo can be taken. Allow yourself to be creative.
We left one activity for us to explore. This brought back a lot of memories of former excursions to such a place. On our last day we stopped at the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island.

My favorite spot was at the beach because I love to see the waves. I enjoyed watching our boys hang out in a different light. It was like they were still my little boys, but now they too have evolved into being young adults.

That is the one thing a vacation will do for you. It makes you appreciate your family even more. The Outer Banks has something for any age and it is a great place to visit and enjoy together with your loved ones.

For me, it is about creating memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks to the Outer Banks that was made possible. Here is to our next visit and this time we won’t let years pass before returning again.
What about you, are you ready to visit the Outer Banks?
