Staying Authentic with my Word of the Year

It is that time of year when I pick a word of the year. At first, I did not want to choose one. I wanted to skip it altogether. After talking to my therapist, though, I changed my mind. 2020 has been a doozy of a year.

For that reason, I wanted to skip the future lure of selecting a new word of the year. As optimistic as I am, I also know the importance of talking to a professional as needed. She made me look at it differently. I wanted to stay authentic with my word of the year.

I owe her the credit for going with Embrace. That is my word of the year as I enter 2021. I embrace letting go of what no longer serves me. It is anything that takes away my peace and my self-worth. I also embrace the positive changes that come with embodying this new word.

It is kind of like having that best friend that has an uncanny way of giving you great advice. It is there for me to grab onto whenever the need arises. That is what I anticipate my word doing for me. As I have become a certified coach, I see the power in my self-talk. Embrace is that kind of word.

Evaluate your life

The words that you say can move you forward or set you back. I would instead like to move forward than regress in my steps. Take a minute to evaluate where you are in life in this very minute. Do you like where you are at in the present moment?

If you answered no, then ask yourself why not? Sometimes you must do inventory on the people that you surround yourself with regularly. Do they add value to your life or take it away? I am blessed to have some fantastic people in my life.

First and foremost are my kids. I live for them, and I believe in their dreams too. They do the same for me, even in the darkest of moments. Yes, we all face storms in life, unfortunately. However, a storm does not mean that you can not be resilient. It usually will reinforce your values and beliefs. There is hope in that, and I have incredible faith.

Create your vision board

If you are still feeling doubtful, make a list of what you want 2021 to look like for you. Now take those ideas and create a vision. Next, make a new vision board with your goals for the New Year. Remember to speak life into your vision. Words are powerful with the images that you choose for your vision board.

It is fun to put something together that will inspire you for the whole year. You learn a little bit more about yourself too. It is satisfying to start off fresh in the beginning and then look back to see what you accomplished.
I keep pushing with my dreams and goals, even if it means carrying them over into the following year.

It is about not giving up, ever. You keep going until you finish. Even though the pandemic has caused some havoc, it does not mean that you are not worthy. It means that you, too, can have it all and can have an amazing year regardless.

Create Change with your Word of the Year

If you do not like where you are at, then do something about it. Do whatever it takes to pursue your happiness too. You get to go after the things that are uniquely yours. Write the book, take the class, apply for your dream job, take a chance, etc.

Once you get in alignment with your values, you will see yourself start to move. The things that once seemed impossible only become more visible and inviting to you. Everyone deserves to shine.

You do too.
