Moms Can Embrace Not Being Okay

Moms Can Embrace Not Being Okay

Reflecting on so many things.

Sometimes as moms it feels like we must put on this facade that everything is okay. Moms can embrace not being okay. It doesn’t matter the age your children are either. Whether they are little or are in college moms feel it all.

When your children reach milestones, you feel all the emotions. Each stage is a gift, but also a reminder that your children are growing up. You celebrate them together whenever you get the chance to.

Being a mom of young men, it has been quite the journey. I have been there through it all and have so many more milestones to experience. I will welcome them, but I still feel all the feelings that come my way.

Take off the cape

I want to tell you that you don’t have to feel like you are Wonder Woman each day. When your child goes to kindergarten it’s okay to cry. That when your child goes off to college it’s okay to miss their presence in the home. By the way, you will cry then too.

Yes, people will tell you all the great things associated with these milestones. They mean well. On the other side of that is to make sure you express how you feel. Each person has their own process on dealing with these moments.

That’s the beauty of them. You get to decide how you will react. Along with how you will accept these moments.

Being a mom is the best thing in the world. Yet, it can be one of the hardest things. Embrace your emotions no matter what.

Writing in a journal can be therapeutic. It’s something that you can go back and read months later. You’ll be able to reflect on them in a good way.

Start talking and doing things

Communicate how you feel with a loved one or a dear friend. It helps to have another person listen. It’s possible you might even help the person listening too.

Be aware of other moms that need you to be a listener. Keep cultivating those relationships. Sharing these feelings with others is a good thing.

In the meantime, find ways to do things for yourself. You are not running a race to be perfect. Instead, embrace that you are not perfect.

Exercising is a great stress reliever and find what works for you. Whether that is doing yoga, lifting weights or going for a walk. It doesn’t have to be complicated.

You will always be a mom no matter what. Spend time with your children and don’t be afraid to let go. Each phase of their life will call for that. Remember your parents or guardians did it for you too. Your children will do it for their kids as well.

Looking back now I can sympathize with my own mother. I can totally understand what she felt way back when. Yet, I smile knowing that she too can relate to me now. Even though I’m an adult I’m still her little girl.

You could say she’s been my listener in my inner circle. A good one at that. I thank God daily for it too.

So, continue enjoying all the memories that you make with your kids. Nothing is too big or small. If it makes you cry, then so be it. I call that soul cleansing. You will feel refreshed and brand new again.

Go on and face the day knowing that you don’t have to wear a mask. Instead, wear your feelings like a badge. A badge that you have earned regardless of what it looks like.
