Finding your purpose in a busy world can feel overwhelming. You are in a constant state of comparison. Yes, even when you think that you are not.
There is an overflow on social media and news outlets each day. It is easy to be a follower in it all. How do you direct who you should be today?
Assess where you are now
Begin with assessing where you are now. What are you currently doing? If you have chosen a stable job, congratulations! However, if in your gut, it doesn’t feel like it is your purpose, it’s time to dig deeper.
When you are waking up each day, and you are dreading your job, it stinks. It does not set you up to live a happy life. If anything, it drains your energy. Not so good for your well-being, either.
First, write down what gives you joy. What kind of things stir up a passion in your life? You could even write down the things that you are good at doing. Writing them down will help you in finding your purpose.
Think about the things that set your soul on fire. What are some things that make you feel good? Start thinking of things that you feel help you give back.
Learn to cut out the noise
Finding your purpose can be hard when you are distracted. If you work full-time, you fall victim to not having enough time. At least that is your perception at first.
Remember these are merely excuses. If you want change, you have to be willing to make changes.
A job, a family, and obligations can take over versus your purpose. What if you could figure out a way to distract yourself less? By this, I mean delegating chores and spending less time on things not relevant to your purpose.
Finding your purpose by digging deep
If you don’t try to lighten up your load, you end up overwhelmed. That alone would cause you to give up on doing anything.
A lot of times, your purpose needs nudging. You must coax it to come up to the surface. Just when you think it’s not there, it gives you a clue. That is when you run with it.
When you were a kid, you had dreams. Maybe even far-fetched crazy ideas. Is your purpose hidden in that?
Go ahead and give yourself permission to find out. Your purpose, your calling or whatever you want to call it is waiting. It is waiting for you to discover it and making it a part of your life.
Are you willing to do the work in finding your purpose? Believe me, it is worth it.
