Love Yourself First This Valentine’s Day

Ever feel lonely on Valentine’s Day?

I’m talking about whether you are single, in a relationship or if you are married. Sometimes these special occasions can make you feel sad versus happy. If you are in a loving relationship this does not apply to you.

Instead of wallowing in self-pity try loving yourself first. Yes, you heard me right I’m talking about you first. In order to be happier with any holiday that comes along its important to feel good about you.

When you are content with who you are in the present moment it allows you to look forward to holidays all the more. It’s not about the expectations that you have about the other person. Neither is it keeping score on what a person has done for you in the past.

If you are not getting all of the things that you wish for on these special occasions it’s okay. It doesn’t mean that your significant other isn’t a good person or that they don’t care. A lot of the times it’s us within ourselves that choose to let it be a problem in the first place.

On a day like Valentine’s day there are so many ways that you can engage in feeling loved. What feels good to you? You have to really take a look at what it is that can lift you back up.

What kind of activity can you engage in that will make you happy?

Think of ways that will bring you peace, contentment, adventure etc. Are you a movie buff? Does your significant other not like to go to the movies? Are they too busy with their work schedule?

Whatever the reason is don’t worry. You can easily find something to do. Maybe it is going to the movie theater to catch that movie you have been wanting to watch.

Is there a new restaurant that you have been wanting to try?

Get dressed up in your best to go and do these things. It is not the end of the world. It won’t mean that you are being selfish either. I’m a huge advocate for going on a date with your significant other first, but if they can’t and you can it’s more than okay to do.

Don’t think of it as it being a lonely activity either. When you take the time to indulge in something that makes you happy; you will be a better person for it. It will beat feeling lonely on a day that is known for romance.

Romance is awesome when you are able to experience it. However if circumstances say otherwise it can still be a day that you can feel loved. You decide what kind of day or night that you will have.

Do you have children?

If you do then make Valentine’s Day epic! Go out of your way to do something fun together. An activity that will make you love yourself more for it.

Maybe cook an amazing dinner for your family and get out your best china. Spreading kindness always makes you feel more loved. It’s those little things that you can do that end up leaving an impression.

You see loving yourself encompasses a variety of things. It can mean spending time alone doing what you love. Maybe it means doing something with a friend or your child on that day. Anything is possible.

Whether the romance is an element that is part of your day or not won’t dictate the outcome of your happiness. Romance is a bonus on that day. Loving yourself first is the priority.

If you have been in and out of love and feel bad on this day you don’t have to. Find the closest mirror and say ” Hello beautiful,  you are enough, you are good and you are loved.” You will see that when you value who you are and the love that you deserve it will change your mindset.

Isn’t being happy worth it?

There is no need to be sad when you can go and be happy. Whether it is going out or doing things at home to pamper yourself. If it is doing something with your children instead then go for it.

Valentine’s Day is for everyone. Go and find your bliss.
